The problem

Selling into the U.S. is easy. Getting returns back is not.

American customers return goods the way Amazon taught them to: a click, a label, a drop-off. The overseas seller is left with a parcel in the wrong country and duty paid on it.

Shipping each return home costs more than the item

International postage on a single return often wipes out the margin, so goods get written off or pile up at a 3PL that cannot tell you what is in the box.

You cannot see what came back

A customer says it is defective. Is it? Without photos and a grade you cannot decide whether to resell, repair, or claim against the carrier.

The duty you paid on import is lost

Since the end of the de minimis exemption, duty is paid on every parcel. When returned goods leave the U.S. you may be entitled to a refund of most of it, but the paperwork is heavy and few sellers claim it.

How it works

From return request to final decision, in one view.

1Step 1

You start the return

Create a return order in Boomerang and send your customer a U.S. label addressed to our warehouse, tagged with your seller code.

  • Enter the customer and items
  • Label PDF emailed to the customer
  • Optional: import entry for drawback
2Step 2

We receive and inspect

Our team scans the label on arrival, opens the package and records it against your return order.

  • Barcode scan at the dock
  • A photo of the package, then two of every item
  • Graded and binned the same day
3Step 3

You decide what happens

Every unit sits in your own virtual warehouse. Choose its next step whenever it suits you.

  • Hold for future orders
  • Reship to a new U.S. customer
  • Consolidate and return home
4Step 4

Closure and visibility

Follow every return and shipment, download every document, and watch your duty claim move from draft to paid.

  • Tracking number on every label (live carrier updates coming soon)
  • Invoices and packing lists generated
  • Drawback claim status
Your options

Every unit, your call.

Returned goods do not have to make the expensive trip home one at a time. Keep them close to your U.S. customers, or send them back together when it makes sense.

Duty drawback

Get back the duty you paid on what goes home.

When imported goods are exported again, U.S. Customs may refund up to 99% of the duties paid on them. Boomerang links each returned unit to its original import entry, assembles the evidence from intake to export, and tracks the claim until it pays.

  • Import entry and duty captured when you create the return
  • Inspection photos and export proof attached automatically
  • Claim file prepared for your licensed customs broker (direct filing coming soon)

Why Boomerang

Built for brands selling from overseas.

A U.S. return address

Your customers ship to a domestic address, so returns are cheap for them and fast for you. Each label carries your seller code.

Every return documented

A photo of every package as it arrives, then two of every item inside: the opened item, and its tags or defects, plus a condition grade.

Your own virtual warehouse

See every unit with its photos, grade, bin and days held. Filter, export, and act in bulk.

Flexible dispositions

Hold, reship to a new U.S. customer, consolidate and return, or dispose, unit by unit.

Duty drawback built in

The data a claim needs is captured from day one, so recovering duty is a click rather than a project.

Paperwork generated

Commercial invoices, packing lists, export documents and inspection reports, ready when the shipment is.

Why we built it

Logistics people, not a marketplace.

Boomerang is a division of Eastern Air Couriers, a New York courier that has moved shipments across the globe for more than 35 years. Its founders watched the end of the de minimis exemption turn every returned parcel into duty paid and goods stranded, and spent almost two years working out what a returns service for overseas sellers has to be.
