Handling U.S. marketplace returns without a U.S. office

U.S. shoppers expect free, easy returns. For a seller in Jaipur or Shenzhen that expectation collides with the cost of international postage: a single return shipped home can cost more than the item is worth.
The choices sellers make today
- Refund without return. Simple, but it invites abuse and loses the goods entirely.
- Ship every return home. Reliable, but postage and re-import handling eat the margin.
- Send returns to a general 3PL. Cheaper, but most 3PLs will not open, grade or photograph a return, so you cannot decide what to do with it.
What a domestic return address changes
With a U.S. address on the label, the customer's return is a cheap domestic parcel. Once the unit is inspected and graded you can resell it to the next U.S. customer without it ever leaving the country, and only consolidate home what cannot be sold.
Marketplaces are named here only as places sellers sell. Boomerang is independent of them and works with any channel that lets you set a return address.
